Tips on planning an intimate wedding or “minimony” during a pandemic

Were your wedding plans postponed due to the corona virus pandemic? Are you planning for a intimate wedding or a “minimony” during these crazy uncertain times and don’t know where to start? Well I have a few tips for you on how to get a jump start on your planning process (and maybe save you from giving yourself a bald spot or two)

First, you will confirm your plan B date options with your venue and share these dates with your most important vendors like Wedding Planners, Photographers, Videographers, DJ’s/Entertainers, Florists, and any other outside vendor who was an important part of your wedding day. Once a new reserve date has been chosen you can plan for the BIG event with friends & family at a later time! Think of the reserve date as your Vow renewal to your “minimony”.

The next order of business is location! Securing a location can eb daunting or it can be fun. Try to think outside of the box. Maybe a favorite tree at local park you both like to read under, your newly designed front porch where you both sat on while dating, your backyard, a quaint little chapel, etc.. oh and notify a select few that you would like to physically attend. The rest of your loved ones can attend via video chat like Zoom, google chat or even live stream via social media’s facebook or instagram live so make sure to send out your digital save the dates for the meeting ID and time.

Lastly, talk to you Photographer, Videographer, Hair stylist, Makeup artists and Florist to see if they are able to provide services for your minimony and what their prices are for something like this. As a professional wedding photographer I have seen that couples who are opting for intimate ceremonies are still going on with the wedding prep and having me photograph their pretty details, Mom or dad helping them get all dressed up and lets not forget about the Bride and groom still having their first look, portrait time and to the alter to become the new Mr & Mrs. Once the ceremony concludes it is on to the first dance, dinner (even if it is door dashed from your favorite restaurant!) a mini cake cutting and a car parade with friends and family stopping and honking as they drop off gifts and love from a safe distance to the new happy couple!

I know what some of you are saying.. This is not be the most ideal way of how you wanted to become husband and wife but it’s a temporary yet memorable way to get married until you can have your big dream wedding and dance the night away with everyone you love and adore. Until then, I am sure your team of amazing vendors will be on your side and help you make the most out of what ever your plans may be.

I hope everyone who allows love to conquer their pandemic and goes on with their intimate wedding continues to operate under safe, cautious and the happiest condition! Congrats to all the 2020 (and 2021) couples on their weddings. I wish you all the best!
